Process Definition
Sponsored by

The definition of a process includes the structure of the process, background information, and meta-data (i.e. characteristics).

The structure of the process includes, but is not limited to:

  • steps or activities
  • participants
  • rules
  • timing (delays, parallel vs. sequential activities)

Background information and meta-data provide useful information to those managing or learning about the process. Such items as the goals and objectives of the process (why it exists), the type of process it is (e.g. standardized vs. differentiated), and its relationship with other processes are often captured.

The process definition is expected to be updated regularly as processes are optimized and objectives change.
