Process automation is the application of software applications,
tools and infrastructure to manage routine activities in order
to free up employees to handle exceptions or perform more creative
work. Automation can create tremendous efficiency by eliminating
non value added tasks, reducing process latency, and ensuring
a process is implemented in a consistent manner.
As many organizations have discovered, process automation is
not a silver bullet solution and can itself create new challenges.
First, automating a poor process is just a costly way to continue
to deliver poor results.
|
Secondly, not all
complex business processes can be fully automated, because:
- People
are an integral part of the process.
- Mistakes and exceptions occur
within the process.
- Complex process steps are not easily reduced
to digital business rules
Finally, traditional process automation embedded the process
definition inside legacy IT
applications. This makes the process
difficult to understand and cumbersome to change.
The future of process automation is centered on a BPM
Platform which liberates
processes from the applications that support
them. |
