Process improvement is the act of incrementally exceeding the
expectations or requirements of a process through continual enhancements
and refinements. Process improvement is an ongoing responsibility
that must continually adapt to changing business requirements
and technologies.
To effectively conduct process improvement, process objectives
and outcomes must be measurable, unambiguous and well understood.

The idea of improving
processes has taken on many forms, such as Total
Quality Management (or TQM), Process
Reengineering, Quality
Function Deployment (QFD), and Six
Sigma. Business process improvement tools attempt
to streamline processes and improve them.
