An activity is the building block of a process. It is the representation
of a single, atomic task in a process. For example, in a hiring
process, an activity would be “interview internal candidates.”
The person(s), technology or other actor performing an activity
must possess the necessary levels of competence, capacity and
capability in order for the activity to be successful.
- Competence
is an adequate level of fitness or power to perform;
- Capability
is the skill or ability to contain, receive or perform an
action; and,
- Capacity is the legal authority or qualification to perform.

Process activities
can be ordered in serial or
parallel, depending on which arrangement
is found to be most optimal. They can also be organized into
logical groupings, referred to as sub-processes.
